McKinley Spelling Bee

Have you heard the buzz going around school about the upcoming McKinley Spelling Bee?  McKinley Elementary is proud to announce that on Friday, January 25th, McKinley will be holding its annual spelling bee for the upper grades.  Over the next two weeks, each of the upper grade classrooms will be holding a preliminary classroom spelling bee to determine which students will advance to the school spelling bee.  All of the upper grades will compete with one another to determine the overall school champion, as well as those students who spelled the most words correctly for each grade level.  The overall school champion will have the opportunity to participate in the regional written spelling exam that is part of the selection process for the Scripps National Spelling Bee. A word list is available to help you prepare for the upcoming spelling bee and should have been distributed to you in the classroom prior to the winter break.  If you did not receive one, please ask your teacher for a copy.  The lower grades will also be conducting various activities in the classroom to encourage our younger students to become good spellers.  If you have any questions, please check with your child's teacher, or contact Jasmin Schwaz at 558.1430.
