ADDITION STRATEGIES: (1.) Counting On: 8 + 3 = 11 (Start with the 8 and count on 3 more. Be sure to begin with the largest number.) (2.) Making Ten: 9 + 1 = 10, 8 + 2 = 10, 7 + 3 = 10 (3.) Fast Tens: 10 + 6 = 16, 10 + 8 = 18 (4.) Doubles: 7 + 7 = 14, 4 + 4 = 8 (5.) Doubles + One: 7 + 6 = 13 (Think of the double 6 + 6 = 12, so 7 + 6 = 13) SUBTRACTION STRATEGIES
1. Counting Back: This is a good strategy if you are subtracting 1, 2, or 3. 2. Counting Up: 10 – 7 = 3 (Think 7 and count up to 10)
3. Fact Families: Ex: 3, 4, 7 4. Doubles: If you know that 7 + 7 = 14, then 14 – 7 = 7 Printable version of this page Last update: Tuesday, December 13, 2005 at 4:08:11 PM This site is using the Blue Comet 1.1 theme. |
