All our work is guided by the California PTA Mission Statement.

We have a large dynamic group of dedicated members who provide everything from books to computers. We respond to the changing needs of our school. We have 35 very active parent led committees. These volunteers give large amounts of time to create or implement on-going programs. They contribute their talent and leadership skills. These committees have created educational events like a science discovery day, financed and built a computer lab in two months, developed a disaster preparedness plan, developed an after school enrichment program, and parent education programs.

These committees also staff the library, provide supervision at recess, produce a weekly newsletter, help in the classroom and drive on field trips. The activities are too numerous to list.

On a week-to-week basis, you will find at least forty different parents at school. They have juggled their work schedules so they can give 30 or 60 minute chunks of their time to enhance their child's education. Members of PTA demonstrate their care for children in all their activities. We believe all children are our children.

Mission Statement of PTA in California

To support and speak on behalf of all children and youth in the school, the community, and before government agencies and other organizations that make decisions affecting children.

To assist parents in developing the skills they need to nurture children.

To promote parent and public involvement in schools and communities.

In 1994/1995 school year, California PTA members state wide contributed over 21 million hours. This is equivalent to more than 10,000 full-time employees.

National PTA

National PTA celebrated 100 years of working for children in 1997. It is the oldest and largest volunteer organization working exclusively on behalf of ALL children and youth. National PTA guarantees the parents have a voice in national government. Throughout the century PTA has addressed children's issues such as: establishing child labor laws, compulsory education, adequate funding for public schools, violence prevention, technology in the classroom, etc. Teddy Roosevelt was one of the first men to join the National PTA.
