Green Team News
This month we are focusing on ways to decrease lunch waste. Instead of a “disposable lunch” in which plastic and paper bags must to be thrown away, please strive for something called a “no waste lunch” so NOTHING gets thrown away. Here are some tips for you to try!
* Use a lunch box or reusable sack.
* Place food in reusable food and drink containers.
* Pack fresh fruit since it doesn't require any additional packaging.
* If you must use a disposable plastic bag wash it out and keep reusing it.
* Pack a cloth napkin and reusable utensils.
YES, we are still collecting batteries. You may bring your batteries to school and deposit them in the office and they will be collected to take to a collection facility. Or Burlingame City Hall and the following retailers collect batteries as well – The Apple Store, Broadway Hardware, OSH, Radio Shack, and Walgreens.
Keep an eye out for more facts and tips in future Links. We will be having monthly recycling topics and drives, so stay tuned. If you are interested in joining the Green Team committee, please contact Lynn Ryan at lynn.ryan@comcast.net or 652-7995. Here's 5 principles from Go Green Initiative that we strive to do:
•Generate compost. This is nature's way of recycling. Through basic and worm composting programs, children learn about ecology, biology and waste reduction.
•Recycle everything that cannot be reused and purchase items that can be recycled. With fast shrinking landfill space and diminishing natural resources, recycling has never been more important.
•Educate students, teachers and parents on environmentally- responsible behavior.
•Evaluate the environmental impact of every activity and act responsibly.
•Nationalize the principles of responsible paper consumption.
