FIELD TRIPS
NOTES
MATH
In Math we've started working with positive and negative integers. We talked about where in life you would see these. The kids mentioned thermometers, bank accounts, card game scores, a gain and loss of yards in football and a couple others. We'll soon be going into adding and subtracting these positive and negative numbers.
LANGUAGE ARTS
We'll be finishing up the book Holes in the next week or so and then we'll be watching the movie so we can compare and contrast the two. Pen pal letters have been a real hit! The students are writing their second letters to their pals. Some of the children from Colombia gave their email addresses so that correspondence can continue at home as well.
SCIENCE
Science is starting off the year with the Systems of Living Things. We're learning about cells, body systems, classifying living things, plants and their adaptations and the plant process.
SOCIAL STUDIES
In Social Studies we'll be finishing up the 13 Colonies. This will take us through to the end of January/beginning of February. We will also being doing an art project where we'll be drawing and painting a colonial person in traditional clothing.
ART
The cross stitching is going very well and the kids are having a great time doing it. I'm going to shorten the cross stitching time at school from 2 hours to 1 hour and let the kids take their stitching home to work on it if they would like.
